BAPE Daruma Dolls

I love seeing already established brands experimenting with different media. This is the case of A Bathing Ape's BAPE Daruma Dolls. I remember when I was a child my mother used to work for the Asian Studies Department at The University of Pittsburgh and she put me on to these as a child. They are made of paper mache and each one is hand crafted by the artisans over at BAPE. These are a great addition to any empty corner table.

Nike Trainer 1.2 Mid – Livestrong – Black – Varsity Maize

These are an excellent selection from Nike's Livestrong Collection. I am feeling the color-way and the selection of materials. The selection of yellow on black is somewhat reminiscent of the color scheme that is synonymous with Pittsburgh's professional athletic teams. Nice.

"Malagueta" The Solo Show of Tatiana Suarez at Art Whino

Saturday, July 17th, from 6pm – Midnight

Sketching Session with live model 7-9pm
Latin Fusion Band performance starts at 9pm

Location: Art Whino Gallery
173 Waterfront St.
National Harbor, MD 20745

The event is FREE and open to the public.

ARTIST BIO:
"Tatiana Suarez (b. 1983) is a Brooklyn-based Miami native. This emerging artist is an alumni of the University of Miami's Graphic Design program, and also works as a freelance illustrator. Her charming style is distinctive -- first, the trademark eyes that draw the viewer into a beautiful and surreal world. Suarez takes full advantage of the oil paint's ability to create creamy, soft images on canvas. Rich with symbols that stem from her Brazilian and El Salvadorian heritage, subjects appear as if they are under water, frozen in lovely stillness. The doe-eyed figures look childlike, but also exude sexual overtones, ornamented with plants, insects and other unsettling accompaniments. Beauty is presented concurrently with exotic -- even creepy -- creatures to create enchanted narratives."

Apple iPhone 4 | Detailed Images + Information

FRESHNESSMAG says:

"Bordered close to fanaticism, hundreds of thousands lost sleep or ran the risk of job termination to view the Keynote presentation by Steve Jobs this afternoon at Apple Worldwide Developer Conference 2010 (WWDC 2010). Billed by one Apple employee as “the one not to disappoint”, the gathered spectacle at San Francisco Moscone Center were finally treated to the truth after a long, protracted run of rumors and hearsays – the iPhone 4.

(If you brought a new smartphone recently, please do not go beyond this page for the fear that the unveiled information would cause you to do unfathomable “harms” to your new phone)

First, the physical form of the new device. Thickness at only 0.37-inch, the iPhone 4 is about 25% thinner than the existing iPhone 3GS. Bonded front and back by specialty aluminosilicate glass (the same used on helicopter windshield glass) that is about 30-time harder than plastic it is the most durable, scratch-resistant iPhone ever. Running along the side is the aluminum casing , specifically formulated for Apple and 5 times stronger than standard steel, holds the innards’ component in place while doubles as an antenna. One most notable physical feature (or features) are the 2 cameras, one facing the user on the front, the other, with a LED flash, on the back. At 5-megapixel with 5x zoom, you mostly like will not need to carry a digital camera with you, ever. Boasting what Apple calls Retina Display, the 960 x 640 LCD display presents a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, so fine the human eye can’t tell the pixels apart.

The perfect tandem between processing power and battery life, the Apple designed A4 processor allows ease of multitasking (finally), the new FaceTime video conferencing, even iMovie editing, all in the palm of your hand. With the more powerful processor equals high level functionality, which includes features like video capture in HD, 720p in 30 frame-per-second. In addition to the existing Accelerometer, engineers at Apple incorporated a 3-axis gyroscope (the first smart phone to do so). All equal to greater sensitivity to user acceleration, angular velocity, and rotation rate. Last but not least, the mentioned FaceTime function. Only in WiFi mode for now, the video conferencing app switch seamlessly between the front and back cameras as well as portrait and landscape. Built on open standards, the function will work with other video calling softwares.

The Apple iPhone 4, a physical embodiment of unison between engineering, design, and human emotions, comes in black or white. Retail at $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB, it will be available for pre-release order next Tuesday, June 15th with shipping on Thursday, June 24th in USA, Germany, France, UK, and Japan. If your cellphone subscription is with AT&T, the carrier will provide iPhone 4 upgrade eligibility to those contract ends anytime within 2010."

Dee & Ricky x Casio G-Shock GA-110

This is the first of hopefully many more collaborations between Casio G-Shock and LEGO accessory creators Dee and Ricky. The two brands decided to take a different approach with this line and combined the childhood aesthetic of Dee and Ricky's signature style with an analog G-Shock face. This piece just recently dropped at JCK, a jewelry and watch trade show in Las Vegas. It is said to be priced at $130, more details coming soon.
